Creative Disturbance Podcast (CDP)

A multilingual international podcast network linking minds in the fields of art and the sciences.

Mission

Creative Disturbance strives to create a platform for minds in both the arts and sciences to bridge the intellectual gap that exists between the two areas. We empower creative thinkers from all fields to share ideas that reflect their diverse cultures in an effort to inspire further innovation and drive interdisciplinary collaboration.

Vision

To connect minds across languages in such a way that creativity and knowledge overcome physical borders at the intersection of art and science.

History

a

2014

Founded

Creative Disturbance was founded in the ArtSci Lab at the University of Texas at Dallas by Roger Malina. After a successful crowdfunding campaign, a team of talented student workers was assembled to facilitate experimental publishing of podcasts related to the arts and sciences—something that was virtually unheard of in academia at the time. Over the next few years, the project would expand to foster a large international community.

a

2018

Expanded

By 2018, Creative Disturbance was home to over 500 podcasts recorded in over 150 countries. The platform provided a means for anyone with something to say about the arts and sciences to create their own channel and publish podcast episodes. At this time, Creative Disturbance was a key project of the ArtSciLab, providing students with an opportunity to hone their skills in content creation and audio production.

a

2020

COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic brought the ArtSciLab and the Creative Disturbance Project to a stand-still. The site was eventually taken offline, and the fate of Creative Disturbance as a haven for ideas became uncertain.

a

2023 - Present

Revived

With the ArtSciLab reopened, the Creative Disturbance Project is revived. A new website was developed, and both new and returning members of the project came together to revitalize it through a return to publishing podcasts weekly. Creative Disturbance looks onward to the future. All of the content hosted by the previous site is archived and preserved, to be added to the new website.
