Kusaiyah Gibson has been cosplaying for seven years, crafting his own costumes and creating his own characters for conventions including Emerald City ComiCon in Seattle and the Rose City Comic Con in Portland. “I want to be someone who, especially for people of color, can identify with and be a role model,” says Gibson. “Someone where they can see that it’s OK to be nerdy and it’s OK to like books; you can get by with that.” With interests in science, steampunk, and literature, Kusaiyah is studying to become an English teacher.
