Tremmel and the Japanese artist Shiho Fukuhara (1976) together form the art duo BCL. BCL explores the relationships between biological and cultural codes by means of artistic interventions and social research. They have created various works revolving around art and modification, including ‘Biopresence’: a proposal to insert the DNA of recently deceased loved ones into trees to turn them into physical memorials.
