Bio

J.R. Osborn is a scholar and experimentalist of communication. His work explores media history, design, semiotics, communication technologies, and aesthetics with a regional focus of the Middle East and Africa. He is the author of Letters of Light: Arabic Script in Calligraphy, Print, and Digital Design (Harvard University Press, 2017), co-director of the feature-length documentary Glitter Dust: Finding Art in Dubai (2011), and co-author of African Art Reframed: Reflections and Dialogues on Museum Culture (University of Illinois Press, 2020).
