Bio

Julia Schade, is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies in Frankfurt, where she works as a research assistant since 2015. Schade studied in Frankfurt and at the Université de Caen (Basse-Normandie). She wrote a Master’s thesis with the title “History as a ‘Schauanordnung’? The thinking of other historiographies in the writings of Walter Benjamin and the works of Wael Shawky and Akram Zaatari”. Her current PhD project examines the notion of history and different temporalities  in the works of Lebanese artists such as Rabih Mroué, Lamia Joreige, Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige as well as Akram Zaatari. Her research and teaching focuses on representations and philosophy of history and time, as well as on gender and migration studies. She is a member of the performance collective Arty Chock in Frankfurt and works as dramatic adviser for local festivals.
