Reg Gadney is a successful British crime novelist, screenwriter, and painter. As a young man in the late 1950s, he met and befriended Frank Malina and his family, and eventually came to observe and write about both the processes by which Malina’s kinetic artwork emerged and the milieu in which he lived at the time in Paris. While he was a student in 1964, Gadney co-organised the first International Exhibition of Concrete, Kinetic and Phonic Art in Cambridge. His writings from this period (pieces that were published in Granta, London Magazine, and elsewhere) remain among the most important critical texts regarding kinetic art and artists available today.
