Anthropology, Indigenous, and Sound
Juan Castrillón’s intellectual agenda explores analytics of listening and world-building praxes among dervishes in Anatolia, and Tukanoan shamans in Colombia. His research methods include collaborative projects for producing photographs, texts, films, artifacts and installations. Castrillón’s multimodal research presents a performative response to contemporary debates in the humanities about object oriented ontologies, sonic enfleshments, and indigenous analytics on media. Currently, Juan Castrillón is a doctoral candidate in Ethnomusicology at the University of Pennsylvania.
