Maryam O. Baig was born and raised in Pakistan, where she received a B.A in Political Science and English Literature. In the United States, she received a B.A in Art and Performance and an MFA in Arts and Technology at University of Texas at Dallas. While her academic endeavors span across several fields of expression, visual and performing arts, writing, poetry, her studies have found their focus on Gesture, Memory and Performance in Storytelling. Baig has guest lectured for Exploration of the Arts (UT Dallas), Drawing Dimensions/Foundations (UT Dallas), Theatre Lab (Richland College), Theatre Movement (Keller High School), as a visiting instructor at St. Patrick’s High School in Karachi, Pakistan (Shakespeare in Performance). Baig is preparing to appear as The Fool in Dallas Shakespeare’s King Lear this fall. Elsewhere, she was seen as Sheharzad in Arabian Nights at Dallas Museum of Art, Clio in the world premiere of On The Eve at Theatre Three Dallas, Pakeeza in SuBurbia with Upstart Productions, the Servant Girl in The Old Woman in the Woods with The Drama Club at the FIT Festival, Varvara Nicholaevna in The Black Monk at Undermain Theatre, as Puck in Midsummer Night’s Dream and Nina in The Seagull at UTD. Baig is an artistic team member of The Drama Club and a co-founder of Mutations Art Collective. She wrote and directed BAN THE TAL at the Greenzone, a multimedia performance art piece about the birth, rise and ideology of the Taliban, and BEXCHANGED at UTD, a performance art piece documenting the nuclear arms race between India and Pakistan behind the curtain of war in Kashmir. Baig is a 2014-15 D Academy fellow and an active team member for Big D Reads initiative. Recently, Baig has been invited to perform her writings and short stories at different venues around Dallas, such as Ignite DFW, The Naked Stage and Margo Jones Theatre at Magnolia Lounge. A permanent resident of the United States, Baig lives, works and creates art in Dallas, TX.
